Inspiration

I love to play games, ones of which is chess. I've always wanted to develop a friendly chess game, so we did it for my future weekends.

What it does

Our chess board moves chess pieces automatically with an electromagnet and the help of stepper motors

How we built it

We used arduinos to control stepper motors that move an electromagnet to control chess pieces

Challenges we ran into

Legos have no structural integrity. Our stepper motors provided to much force on the legos.

We are able to move pieces

What we learned

We learned that you need a strong power supply to run strong motors.

What's next for Chess

We want to add reed switches to control each position, as well as full automate the chess setup. We plan to use a raspberry pi as the chess controller.
