Inspiration
We were inspired by Adam Pype's coldline game which keeps you on edge throughout the entire 10 minute duration.
What it does
You play as Alexei Morozov, a young intern left alone to oversee the Chernov Nuclear Plant for the night shift. It was supposed to be quiet, routine, until 02:17 a.m. When every alarm in the facility erupted and the monitors began flashing red. Now with ten minutes on the clock, you must prevent a nuclear disaster, save the city of Kurchatov, and protect thousands of lives. Your only companion is a cold, automated helpline voice. Your only hope is deciphering its cryptic instructions and solving the puzzles before time runs out.
How we built it
We used Unity, C# and blender for the game. The sounds were generated using https://elevenlabs.io where we generated the voice of the phone agent.
Challenges we ran into
Scripting the game was a bit hard, The models had to perfectly fit with each other, and to make the game feel real we had to play around a lot with the sounds. The code is also complex because making an intractable phone agent is challenging, and requires a lot of time.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
The game is fully functional and even has a few easter eggs, it is playable, immersive and keeps the player on edge.
What we learned
We learned that maintaining a suspenseful atmosphere throughout the entire game is crucial to keeping player fully immersed. We also learned that making a game in 24 hours is possible but is quite the challenge)
What's next for Chernov Incident Game
After polishing we will publish the game on steam!
