Inspiration
We were inspired by a simple everyday problem: people often have ingredients at home but struggle to decide what to cook, plan nutritious meals, and identify what groceries they actually need. We wanted to make cooking smarter, simpler, and more personalized.
What it does
PantryPilot, also known as Chef’s Echo, is a pantry-first meal planning assistant that helps users turn available ingredients into practical meal ideas. It brings together pantry management, personalized meal planning, dietary preferences, missing-ingredient tracking, shopping lists, and guided cooking in one experience.
How we built it
We built the application using React, TypeScript, and Vite, with a modular interface designed around a modern smart-kitchen experience. The project focuses on connecting ingredient management with meal planning and cooking assistance. Alexa+ integration is an intended development direction and is not yet complete.
Challenges we faced
One of our biggest challenges was bringing multiple everyday cooking workflows into one coherent experience while keeping the interface intuitive. We also had to distinguish between implemented functionality and features that still require further integration and testing.
What we learned
We learned how to structure a multi-feature web application, organize reusable components, and approach AI-assisted cooking as a practical problem-solving tool rather than just a chatbot.
What's next
We aim to strengthen personalization, improve nutritional recommendations, validate the application with real users, and develop a working voice-first integration to make hands-free cooking assistance more accessible.
