Chef's Kiss

People of lower income are often unable to eat food that's healthy. Chef's Kiss is the solution to this. It's AI driven API provides users daily meal plans fit to their needs, budget, & restrictions.

Inspiration

The idea for Chef's Kiss was inspired by our own personal experiences. Both of us are either first or second generation immigrants who's families have, as a result, undergone tough times at one point or another. During these times, we both noticed that the diet in our households had shifted, going from meals that are healthy and nutritious to an overabundance of fast food and other unhealthy options. Unfortunately, this is not something that's unique. All across the world, people who are less fortunate are forced to turn to fast food and other unhealthy options due to a lack of money and time. These experiences are what pushed us towards creating Chef's Kiss: an app that will make a healthy diet more accessible to those less fortunate.

What it does

When provided with a budget, your goals, and dietary restrictions, Chef's Kiss will provide the user with a daily meal plan as well as a shopping list. Chef's Kiss will produce a daily meal plan (containing breakfast, lunch, and dinner) for the user, including specific information about each meal and a recipe to create the meal in the first place. Additionally, it will also provide the user with a weekly shopping list of ingredients that they'll need to purchase in order to make all the meals for the next week (the total cost will be in line with the user's entered budget).

How we built it

Chef's Kiss was built with the use of an OpenAi API key, swiftui and swift, django, and html.

Challenges we ran into

The main challenge Chef's Kiss ran into was a problem with it's AI driven API. In the created daily meals for the user, the AI API would continually provide the user with the same meal every single day.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We're most proud of being able to create an app that will help to tear down the barriers which people who are less fortunate are forced to face when it comes to eating healthy. We are proud of the fact that Chef's Kiss has no barriers to access for its potential users. The app is completely free and does not require the user to share overly-personal information. The UI is also extremely intuitive, allowing the app to be open to anyone.

What we learned

Through this process, we were able to learn many useful skills and topics. Mainly, how to seamlessly work with and integrate AI tools into code.

What's next for Chef's Kiss

The next steps for Chef's Kiss would be to improve its AI recommendations even further through better training. With these steps, we hope that Chef's Kiss will be able to provide even better and more accurate meal plans, allowing it to act as the perfect, personal, and affordable nutritionist.
