Inspiration

Being college students, we generally don't have time, or money to cook our own food. One of our team members loves cooking his own meals when he can, and came up with an idea to create an application where we can cut down on finding the recipe, the best price for ingredients, and keep it user-friendly!

What it does

This application allows users to find ingredients for recipes, modify the person count, and search for the best price in the area using geolocation while maintaining a user-friendly UI.

How we built it

Our first step, was a rough roadmap of the application and figuring out the general UI design. After solidifying this UI, we built the frontend using Typescript, React, and Javascript. We then built our backend using the Spoonacular API which has many different features that allow us to complete our goals.

Challenges we ran into

As new and inexperienced developers, we ran into many problems with building the application. The backend was especially difficult, as there were many issues with just building the application and many things not loading. The SDLC was something we are not yet used to.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The design of the frontend was especially done in our opinion and kept it user-friendly to any future users of the application.

What we learned

We learned how important the SDLC is and the importance of planning, communication and collaboration with projects like these. It helped us understand what we need to focus on as developers and what we need to improve.

What's next for Chef

We would like to further build this project and use it to genuinely help students, even if only in our area, to improve their ability to save, especially in these trying times!
