How We Built It The MVP was built using Replit and Replit AI, combining HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. Replit AI was used for rapid prototyping and structural assistance. Design elements were created using Canva, Flixier, and Gamma. All production—UX, assets, voiceovers, and pitch video—was completed solo, with zero budget, within 24 hours of learning about this opportunity.
Challenges I Ran Into The biggest challenge was time. I discovered the hackathon less than 24 hours before the deadline, with no prior preparation. As a single dad and solo builder, I had to juggle parenting, development, voice recording, and video editing in one night. Getting assets to sync between phone and desktop also caused major setbacks. Despite this, I completed a full MVP, pitch video, and a UN-aligned slide deck in time to submit.

What We Learned That speed doesn’t always require sacrifice. When the mission is clear—saving lives through ethical design—vision can overcome limits. I learned how to prioritize what truly matters, lean on AI support when needed, and tell a real story that reaches people.
What's Next for Checkpoint Checkpoint is already established as a 508(c)(1)(a) nonprofit organization. The next steps include finalizing grant proposals, scaling development through ethical partnerships, and integrating with hospitals, justice systems, and recovery networks. We are also building a youth-centered branch and trauma-informed certification program to expand global impact. The mission is clear: turn every screen into a checkpoint—because survival starts here.
