All of us are lovers of the spirit of competition. This app was designed to inspire simple fun competition while at the same time encouraging fitness.
What it does
The app tracks your position along a pre-set course of 5 checkpoints (there are 3 difficulty levels). The timer starts when you reach the first one, and ends when you reach the final one. Once you finish your course, your name and time are pushed to our Firebase database for use in the leaderboard.
How we built it
We started by constructing the framework of a simple Android application in Android studio. The Google maps API was used to construct tracks and monitor the position of the user. FIrebase was integrated to give a location for the data created by each user and to provide an auto-updating leaderboard.
Challenges we ran into
The biggest challenge was tracking location constantly and comparing that location to the markers to get an accurate checkpoint arrival.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This is our first experience using Android studio, Firebase and Google Maps API. Completing a functioning app with web capabilities was a big accomplishment given our limited experience and time.
What we learned
We learned the basics of a database for an android application, navigating the Firebase and Google Maps API's, and how to create and publish an app on android studio.
