Inspiration: What sucks about making a purchase in a physical store? Or let me rephrase the question for you... What's the best part about shopping online? What if I say something combines the best part of both and, at the same, eliminates the worst of either: Well... Welcome to Checkies! With the goal to make your shopping experience as pleasant as possible, Checkies is built to help you "CHECK-out with-EASE!"

Checkies was made with both the buyers and sellers in mind. Apart from the buyers, Checkies also supports all sellers financially, as they now don't need to spend a fortune on installing multiple expensive checkout machines to make their store function-able.

What it does: Checkies is a fast supermarket checkout app that lets you scan the products on the mobile app eliminating all the hassle of standing in long lines to check out and saves you a trip to the cashier for the payment process. Instead, if you have Checkies all you need to do scan your item, tap to pay in an instant, and just literally carry out with life as if you never went to the store.

Checkies allows users to enjoy the luxury of trying out/seeing their products in hand before buying, while giving them the ease of making easy payments and checkouts as an online shopping experience would offer.

How we built it: First and foremost, users enter the name of the store on the app or even better just scan the QR Code (assigned to each store registered with Checkies) directly from app UI. Upon entering the store, users just need to scan the product to add it to thier app's shopping cart and when they are done reviewing their cart, they can simply pay for all their products via the various methods of payments integrated into the app.

Challenges we ran into: Being a team comprised of ambitious but first year college students, we lacked any exemplary programming skills to give birth to our concept in the form of a full-fledged app. Since most of us were adept only in Java, we had limited options to boast the feasibility of our idea.

Accomplishments that we're proud of: Being able to convert the concept to into a complete working model. Even though our Checkies interface is basic in nature, it still succeeds in complementing the fundamental idea of it.

What we learned: A lot! Like seriously! The team sat down to learn to implement the concepts of Java GUI (which we saw for the first time) and applied it to create a working model of Checkies. Our journey was filled with constant debugging brainstorming and trips to the mentors to come up with our model.

What's next for Checkies: Getting a full-fledged app with a User-Interface as pleasant as the concept itself! Consequently, we aspire to partner up with multiple local and popular supermarkets to get registered with Checkies.
