Inspiration

After a member of our team lost a friend to breast cancer, he decided to do everything in his power to educate more people about breast cancer and it’s preventive methods. We realised that our unique skillsets puts us at a powerful place to drive social change in this regard, and thus, CheckMe was born.

What it does

Check Me is an app that aims at empowering individuals in the fight against breast cancer through a comprehensive mobile application. Our solution provides personalized support, education, and resources, ensuring users have access to critical information, a supportive community, and tools for early detection. Together, we strive to enhance awareness, facilitate proactive healthcare decisions, and foster a united front against breast cancer.

How we built it

We built Check Me by making use of some technologies like React-native(this was used to build the app), Tailwind CSS(this was the CSS framework we used to style the app), Expo(this is a wrapper on react native that helped us to ship on both android and iOS) and finally we made use of expo application services to build an installable apk for android devices.

The challenge we ran into was making the app compatible for both android and iOS devices.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud we were able to build an app that guides women to self examine themselves.

What we learned

We learned to build with the users in mind, which was very essential because the product kept changing shape during production. We learned to empathize with the users' unique circumstances and limitations to build a product that would be more functional to their unique needs.

What's next for Check Me

The Highlight of our product pipeline is Check-Scanner, a mammography device that uses Infrared technology and Artificial Intelligence to accurately diagnose for Breast Cancer without the need for expensive X-Ray Machines. Our Solution Model heavily relies on getting Check-Scanner to as many Specialists and Doctors as possible in low income areas, either through a low cost buying initiative or free donations. This way, users can reach out to Specialists and Doctors around them using our app and get cheap consultation and Mammography scans at any income level.
