This app is inspired by BeReal, a social media app that engages users once a day with a photo.
How CheckIt Works
Set 3 goals in the morning CheckIn throughout the day CheckOut your friends' progress in the evening
CheckIt employs a creative platform to encourage users to hold their friends accountable for their daily goals: leading to self-improvement. Every morning users are notified to set up their goals for the day. Then, as they accomplish their goals throughout the day, they can CheckIn and select certain goals as completed. At the end of the day, the CheckOut period begins. During this period, users can view their friends' daily goals and see if they completed their goals. Users will soon receive points for completing each of their goals, with bonuses for finishing all of their goals for the day.
How we built it
We built CheckIt with Flutter and Dart (Firebase backend).
Challenges we ran into
As a team of four first year students, we came into the competition with a limited working knowledge of developing mobile applications, so it was a challenge to learn complex networking and database integrations on the fly!
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Given our limited prior experience in both flutter and app development, we are most proud of our successful UI/UX and database integration. Throughout development, the CheckIt team placed an emphasis on simplicity - helping users achieve their goals without overwhelming them with a complicated system. We accomplished this by using a simplistic user flow. And, we bonded as a team too!
What we learned
We learned important UI/UX elements by reading research about computer-user interactions to optimize the user flow and avoid unnecessary stress and confusion for the user. We also learned about integrating non-sql cloud databases through firebase and the benefits and drawbacks of each system. We learned about empathetic conflict management and the power of teamwork.
What's next for CheckIt
CheckIt has blossomed into a budding entrepreneurship project between the four of us. We plan on acquiring funding and gathering corporate brands to sponsor "community goals" that users can subscribe to (i.e. Starbucks Latte Day).
CheckIt's number one goal will be acquiring data about product-market fit for college students. We hope to deploy to a number of college communities soon. From a software perspective, we plan on meeting with experienced industry professionals to gather mentorship on the project and to develop a deployment plan.
