Inspiration
As a single person earlier as well as now as a couple, I have had financial goals but struggled with tracking every transaction all the time. However, once I zoomed out and started looking at the bigger picture across accounts, investments and savings, it was a game changer. This enabled me and my wife to see consolidated assets and debts and helped us take financial decisions (like buying our house) with confidence.
What it does
My app Check-In in the Apps for Life category allows individuals or couples to have easy financial conversations without the anxiety caused by tracking budgets and transactions. It allows them to partner to build a future picture, see the fruits of their labor and identify focus areas.
How we built it
I built it over few days using Codex between July 16th and 19th. I used GPT 5.5 for v1 but soon switched to GPT 5.6 Sol for the more complex v2 that enabled apple native data sharing without any backend.
I brainstormed v2 with Sol, discussed options, and asked it to make detailed goals and write tests too.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge was my token limits. Other than that, I faced no big issue.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I had never written Swift before. I still have not written anything in Swift. Yet I have a beautiful, fully functional app that I can use myself and put in front of others
What we learned
Upfront brainstorming with a prompt helps clarify the idea for both the user and the model. Breaking things down into goals enables Tesla FSD like hands-off productivity.
What's next for Check-In
There are few small issues to solve but I am making it ready for App Store so others can benefit from it too.
