Inspiration
The inspiration for this app came from our personal experiences with our own health care. Four years ago, Keara started unexpectedly having ankle pain, which eventually became chronic. She started seeing many different providers who gave her many different treatment suggestions and possible diagnoses. Because she didn’t have experience with chronic health conditions, and her doctors didn’t talk to her about how to track her own health information, she was not prepared to advocate for herself during this process. Information like MRI images and treatment plans got lost over time, and it was hard to track medical history between different doctors and clinics.
Even for those of us without chronic issues, this happens ever so often in our lives - we overlook symptoms that could be indications of something chronic or dangerous- or we forget our old procedures that we have done years before. The CHECK app aims to minimize these problems, by helping you take control and making your personal medical records more easily accessible to you, and helping you get help fast if you think you have indicative symptoms.
What it does
CHECK is an app that lets you store all your past procedures, tests and prescriptions from previous appointments. CHECK can store all of your test results, advice from doctors, and notes from past visits for easy access, provides you with the opportunity to contact your physicians, and take surveys to see if you might have possible conditions/diseases. Recording this information in one place will give people the confidence and control they need to stay engaged with their own health care.
How we built it
We used Wordpress to create the website, and ProFreeHost to get an accessible domain. Wordpress allowed us to customize our website, adding pages and buttons that lead to the certain functions of the app.
Challenges we ran into
We had a lot of different ideas about what topic to focus the application on- although we knew from the start we wanted some sort of a scheduling, or tracking app. Another problem we also encountered was trying to work with new languages of code that we were not familiar with before.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We’re proud of the website we were able to create collaboratively, that clearly showcases the intended features, and is interactive and professional. We are also very pleased with the detailed sketches we produced, that really helped us organize our final website. We’re happy with how much we got done, in such little time, and the fact that we all worked together and were able to put all of our ideas together.
What we learned
We learned about different types of coding languages, like python, html, JavaScript, and C++. We also learned how to navigate through new platforms for coding, like Android Studio, Wordpress, and Bubble.com, among others.
What's next for CHECK -Personal Health Agenda
We hope to be able to make this website accessible to the general public. We hope that people will check out the website, and maybe start using the desktop version of the app to keep track of their personal records, until the mobile app version is completely coded and uploaded on the App Store :)
