Inspiration
Important information often gets buried in long documents, lecture notes, and meeting transcripts. I wanted to create a UGREEN NAS utility that turns those files into something easy to understand, remember, and use: one readable A4 page.
What it does
cheat-sheet-creator defines a workflow for combining the essence of multiple files into one PDF. It adapts the style to the material—from a learning cheat sheet with definitions and formulas to a transcript summary with decisions and action items.
The design includes relevant source pictures and explanatory diagrams, automatic portrait or landscape selection, and selective formatting to highlight key ideas. The output follows the source language, asking the user to choose when several languages are present.
How I built it
I built the project as a UGREEN NAS orchestration skill using uliya-skill-kit. Its SKILL.md defines the workflow, delegates supported tasks to registered experts, and specifies how to handle missing inputs, partial results, and approvals.
A separate layout reference defines the PDF acceptance criteria: exactly one DIN A4 page, readable typography, accurate content, and no clipped or hidden overflow. The skill package passed static validation with zero errors or warnings.
What I learned
A useful one-pager requires more than shortening text. It requires prioritizing ideas, connecting information across sources, and preserving the qualifications that make a summary accurate.
I also learned to distinguish a workflow specification from an executable capability. Document extraction and transcription are available in the current NAS catalog, but PDF rendering, embedded-image extraction, and full layout inspection are not yet published capabilities.
Challenges I faced
The hardest design challenge was balancing a strict one-page limit with readability. I chose to require further summarization rather than shrink text below 9 pt or spill onto another page.
Another challenge was making completion trustworthy. The skill must never claim success based only on a draft or an unchecked export. Producing the final PDF remains gated until the required rendering and validation capabilities are available.
What’s next
I plan to connect supported PDF rendering and visual inspection, then test the complete workflow on a UGREEN NAS using real documents, transcripts, and multilingual inputs.
