Parents Need Support in Distance Schooling

Parents of more than 1500 000 children with special education needs in primary and secondary education in the EU are currently facing one common challenge: they lack skills to ensure that children with special education needs are empowered to use their potential and learn during distance schooling. At the same time, teachers are not skilled enough to support parents - for example, in Croatia every 3rd teacher reported on needing additional support for learning with children with special education needs in the evaluation of the first weeks of distance schooling.

With the access to the right support, we believe that every child can use their potential and learn successfully. That's why we have developed a training for parents of children with special education needs on learning that responds to the unique needs of their child.

Meet Chatbot Helen

Inspired by her namesake Helen Keller, the first deaf-blind person to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree, Chatbot Helen:

  • empowers children with special education needs by training their parents on learning based on the type of their special education need (physical, mental, intellectual or sensory);
  • provides fast, trustworthy advice by gathering the most important information about learning from scientific research and academic publications on inclusive education;
  • enables additional learning opportunities to parents through email subscription to curated, expert content on learning based on a specific special education need;
  • serves parents at any time of the day;
  • can be used to supplement existing solutions to support the learning of children with special education needs.

Our Business Plan

To provide a fast response to the learning challenges during COVID-19, Chatbot Helen will be developed through an existing chatbot platform. All costs of chatbot development, content development, and marketing will initially be covered through private investment. Alternatively, the development of the chatbot can be financed through a crowdfunding campaign. Another option is covering all initial costs through funding opportunities for COVID-19 response and entrepreneurs.

Chatbot Helen’s primary value is the content it delivers.

Chatbot Helen will create revenue through subscriptions of its users (10 EUR/month for individuals, and 400 EUR/month for 50 subscriptions). The additional revenue opportunity is providing organizations and institutions interested in developing their own solution to support the learning of children with special education needs a bulk of content used for the Chatbot Helen, or providing them with an entire solution.

During the COVID-19 (estimate 6/2020-12/2020), Chatbot Helen will be available to customers at a lower price (3 EUR/month for individuals, and 120 EUR/month for 50 subscriptions), to validate the market. This period will also be used to attract customers by providing expert and high-quality content.

After the COVID-19, the service will be extended to keep the customers and attract the new ones, by providing:

  • advice on learning through extra-curricular activities;
  • advice on learning through the content of general school subjects (mathematics, languages, science…).

We Have Been Busy During the #EUvsVirus Weekend

During this #EUvsVirus weekend we have:

  • created the test version of the chatbot using the https://flowxo.com/ platform;
  • created the video pitch;
  • worked on the development of our business plan;
  • conducted research on the options for adjusting this solution to different countries in the EU context, since there is no global/EU-wide adopted categorization of the special education needs/disabilities (each country has its own categorization).

Chatbot Helen Can Reach Parents All Over the World

Chatbot Helen will ensure that children with special education needs are using their abilities and learning during distance schooling. That will happen by strengthening the capacities of parents to support children with special education needs during distance schooling.

Solely in our country Croatia, Chatbot Helen has a potential of reaching:

  • +20 000 children with special education needs in primary education in Croatia
  • Parents of +20 000 children with special education needs in primary education in Croatia
  • +30 000 teachers in primary education in Croatia

On the level of the European Union, Chatbot Helen has a potential of reaching:

  • +1500 000 children with special education needs in primary and lower-secondary education in the European Union
  • Parents of +1500 000 children with special education needs in primary and lower-secondary education in the European Union
  • +3500 000 primary and lower-secondary education teachers in the European Union

Access to Quality Education is the Right of Every Child

Even in the times of a pandemic.

With Chatbot Helen, we can make sure parents and teachers are trained to support children with special education needs with the type of assistance they need during distance schooling.

Support us!

In order to create the best possible version of this solution, we need:

  • consultations with the inclusive education experts on the categorization of special education needs/disabilities;
  • teachers and parents to test the solution (already available);
  • opportunities to access initial funding.

After the children with special education needs return to schools, Chatbot Helen can still be used to meet their learning needs:

  • Chatbot can be trained to provide advice based on the progress of a child in learning and to provide personalized advice.
  • Offer of the advice can expand based on general school subjects, such as mathematics and languages, or extra-curricular activities.
