Inspiration
We found the question very interesting and challenging. With speech recognition becoming a more commonly used feature especially on wearable devices, the idea of building a chatbot because more evident to us.
What it does
Skye, our Chatbot integrates with the mobile device and a smart watch. Skye is currently a conceptual project that is designed to use artificial intelligence to understand user behavior like travel patterns and sync with the calendar and photo gallery to provide a more customized experience. More details are on the presentation. The working functionality that we developed suggests the user desirable vacation spots based on the next long weekends.
How we built it
We used Ionic web application framework for building the application, python flask for the backend server and deployed the server on Heroku. The conceptual design and user interface was built with InVision, a mock up prototyping tool. We prototyped a feature on the mobile app and showed a couple of features on the smart watch app.
Challenges we ran into
Executing an entire project from end to end was the biggest challenge, especially within a few hours. Since we did not have time to deploy most of the features, we listed them under concepts with scope for future development.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are extremely proud of this project because we completed everything that we had initially chalked out. Deploying a product, with a presentation, video and working functionality within a short period of time is definitely noteworthy.
What we learned
We learnt that nothing is impossible. Being in a group of only two people showed us that it is possible to execute an entire project. Under time constraints, we learnt to prioritize our tasks which is very important, especially in the corporate world. We also learnt how to plan well and collaborate with each other, understanding our strengths and dividing work accordingly.
What's next for Chatbot called 'Skye'
Since Skye is mostly a conceptual project for now, it has huge scope for actually implementing all the features. If it is implemented, we see it as a huge pioneer in the vacation rental space. It would be like having a personalized assistant just for your vacations. There is a lot of potential if it can be executed.
