Inspiration
The inspiration to do this kind of project came from when I see the youtube shorts of thalassemia patients and unware of risks of thalassemia in close-relative marriages.
What it does
This project helped me to understand the both genetics and technology can work together to solve real-world health problems by using tracking systems to track the donor .
How we built it
I began by researching the basics of thalassemia and how genetic screening works. Then I chose to build the project by creating an app that contains features like, the first part contains login page then select whether the person is donor or patient and tracking of blood donor as well as patient using GPS(it shows the donor in red color and patient in white color) with their permission. The special feature is, the patient can chat with blood donor by sending the request option. If any one patient in risk , just click the risk button it automatically send a alert message to the nearby donor and hospital. Additional functionalty of the app is, it provide daily notification both the patient as well as donor about , what to eat and need not to eat based on their daily condition . For that purpose they have to enroll their daily condition.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge is, I can't able to collect the data's of the thalassemia patients to include special features in the app. Another is to send alert message.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
One of the accomplishments I most proud of is getting positive feedback from others.
What we learned
Through this project, I learned both the Medical knowledge and Technical skills.
Medical Knowledge : How thalassemia is inherited through genes. The importance of genetic testing and counseling.
Technical skills: how to build the app using programming language. how to include the special features to the app.
What's next for Chat with Thala
Include some more functionality based on the user requirements.
