Chat Marks the Moment — chat decides what's clip-worthy, live.

Every streamer knows the moment: the chat explodes, something incredible just happened — and by tomorrow it's buried in a four-hour VOD nobody has time to scrub. Chat Marks the Moment turns that explosion into an editorial shortlist, automatically.

How it works

  • Viewers type !clipit (or !moment / !clip) when something great happens. A 30-second voting window opens; one counted vote per viewer keeps it honest, and duplicates don't count.
  • A live OBS browser-source overlay shows the moment meter building in real time; when a moment crosses the threshold (5 unique voters by default), it locks in on stream — the audience sees their votes land.
  • When the stream ends, the streamer gets a ranked shortlist page: every locked moment with its stream timestamp, vote count, and voters, exportable as Markdown or CSV an editor can cut from immediately. Set a VOD base URL and each moment links straight to that second of the VOD.

Built with Codex The whole project was built during the submission period in a single OpenAI Codex thread (session ID submitted with this entry): Codex built the Twitch chat integration, the voting/moment engine, the OBS browser overlay, and the shortlist page from plain-language direction. A self-test verifies the locking, deduplication, sub-threshold rejection, and persistence.

Tech: Node.js and tmi.js (Twitch chat, anonymous read-only by default). Runs locally, no account or token needed for the default connection; setup in the repo README takes under 10 minutes.

No more scrubbing. Chat already knows the best moments — now they keep score.
