Our website, 'Charlottesville Market Connect,' is a student-led sustainability solution designed to foster community health and environmental responsibility.
Inspiration: As a result of the homelessness , poor nutritional value of modern foods, and extreme price inflation in local supermarkets, we believed creating this website would help to quell some of these issues and improve food quality, accessibility, and pricing for all.
What it does: This code searches through a CSV file listing all current data on current Farmers Markets within the United States. Users can search by city, state, or certain keywords to return contact information, address, and other relevant details of farmers markets.
How we built it: Using Visual Studio code, in addition to GitHub pages, we worked as a team of 4 to design the website's UI, the returning code functionality, and public accessibility. Dividing up the tasks made our idea relatively easy to integrate.
Challenges we ran into: The major challenges we ran into stemmed from UI issues and the functionality of the navigation bar. This was resolved after some time and resulted in some project slowdown,
Accomplishments that we're proud of: We're proud that this website will help bridge everyday people and healthy, local, cost-effective markets. This makes for a greener, more sustainable Earth where both parties, the consumer and seller, benefit equally.
What we learned: Many of us didn't know HTML prior to executing this project. As a result, we had to do lots of research. This helped us learn the new language and we hope to work together in the future to develop even more complex and impactful websites.
What's next for Charlottesville Market Connect: We hope to expand our website over the summer months, potentially integrating local farms, food pantries/ food banks, and other sustainable food-related industries.
