Inspiration

We wanted to help people who wish to donate to organizations but feel like they can't, by providing a website that helps people budget and discourages discretionary spending in favor of donations.

What it does

The user gets a personalized "monster" named Goop, and as an incentive for donating, the user earns points that will unlock hats for Goop to wear.

How we built it

We used HTML to create the skeleton of the website; javascript to create the functionality specifically in regard to the budget and points system, and we used CSS to make it look prettier.

Challenges we ran into

We were originally planning to use AndroidStudio to make an app but we ran into complications with the IDE. We also ran into challenges with GitHub and ensuring that everyone could save and work on the project. We were initially planning on using AdroidStudio since the language our team knew best was Java, as a result, many of our members were learning HTML, Javascript, and CSS as we coded.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of ourselves for learning how to code in HTML, Javascript, and CSS. Despite many of us never using these languages before we managed to create a functional website with integrations in it.

What we learned

How to use HTML, Javascript, CSS, and GitHub. Furthermore, this was many of our members' first Hackathon so we gained skills in working on code in a group, something that is often neglected in the classroom.

What's next for Charity RPG

We'd like to fix our bugs, include more charities, and offer more levels and swag for Goop.
