Inspiration
Our project was inspired by real-world fairs and cookie clicker games especially inspired the interfaces. We also borrowed the leaderboard and rank system from popular multiplayer games, enabling gamification across our donation simulation.
What it does
It lets the user explore a fair, and within the fair are stalls that correspond to a type of charity. Within it, there are buttons to donate to a charity along with the impact that your donation would cause. We also created two monopoly-style impact visualizations for every charity type.
How we built it
First we brainstormed what the best way for gamification was, and we relied upon the excitement to rank up that everyone feels when playing a game. This created our leaderboard idea, and then we figured it would be cool to attach a fair to it, with multiple charities that you could donate to depending on the cause you were passionate about. So we used react-native for efficient design of the fair and leaderboards and javascript for the impact visualizations.
Challenges we ran into
We created multiple visualizations regarding impact that your donations would have, but integrating them with the fair and leaderboard systems proved to be a bit of a challenge.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We think we've created an engaging interface for users that can showcase the impact of their donations very effectively.
What we learned
Teamwork and we improved our Web development skills.
What's next for Charity Quest
Bringing our visualizations together, maybe there could be multiple branches or styles of visualizations that users could tune or adjust to their liking.
