We started in 2013 in Phoenix, AZ as a weekend hobby to test the idea that we could become a force multiplier for local charities.
After a number of successful in-person events, Charity Makeover has launched a Global Virtual Hackathon to intercede and provide game-changing services to rescue the invaluable small-team .orgs operating without government assistance now on the ropes COVID-19. They need our immediate help. We have the playbook to strategize, team up, and execute virtual help for these charities.
What it does
Charity Makeover is a hackathon-style event in which we come together to fundamentally change the game for organizations in need. We have traditionally run in-person hackathon events but we have rapidly retooled our platform to respond to the immediate challenges threatening local charities in need during this crisis.

How I built it
We have built an app (adalo) that helps pair volunteers' skills (e.g. copywriting) with charities' needs (e.g. website update) and facilitate the event.
After years of experience these events have been crafted to deliver high-leverage solutions to charities around the world.

Currently run by a small team, we have rapidly adapted the platform for virtual high-impact events, but could use some help with the following:

- Copywriting / SEO
- Graphic Design
- Wordpress website Developer
- MixPanel / Customer Journey
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Our last event in Bali had over 30 volunteers supporting 6 charities. It's amazing what you can accomplish in a day with driven volunteers -
What I learned
After every event we learn more about how we can deliver the best experience for our volunteers, while simultaneously delivering the highest positive impact to the charities we support.
What's next for Charity Makeover
Virtual Charity Makeover. We're planning our first virtual event on 25-April capped at 50 participants. After this event we plan to roll out a much larger refined virtual event where we can support far more charities.
