Inspiration

We were inspired by the game cookie clicker as it was big on not only money to build a community but also the deeper level of bringing people together within the community. Having the player go through the action of clicking made it something that represented the labour and hard work put into obtaining the money in the first place. We utilised the theme of innovation by allowing the player to choose where to put certain buildings as well as what they wanted to put into the community.

What it does

In this particular game, your actions have a direct visual effect on the community that exists. Choosing to donate to different aspects of the UN goals such as animal welfare, education, healthcare, etc. will make for a better and more stable community.

How we built it

This game was built with javascript and the react framework. It was also deployed using the vercel app as it works very well with vite.

Challenges we ran into

The dependencies near the beginning of development for the game were a hastle to get through. It was difficult to make sure that the ideas we wanted were clearly displayed due to lots of version errors within the code. In the end, we overcame these challenges via switching to a different type of design while retaining the original message.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the game that we have created in general. We typically don't use javascript too often as none of us are big web developers and so choosing to use this language as a challenge for a webgame was something that we are proud of doing.

What we learned

We learned a lot about not only the development of a game in Javascript but also the charities that came alongside it. We discovered the different aspects that people could donate to and how they could have a direct effect on the community.

What's next for Charity Clicker

We are hoping to implement more real world examples for the different upgrades you could have for the community as well as clearer upgrades that the citizens may show to the player.
