Inspiration
In 2023, we live in a world where many may feel disconnected, despite the fact that humans being are closer than we’ve ever been as a species through the advent of social media. Pair that with the fact that it may feel draining to use social media especially with the hardships suffered across the world, there is a need for positivity. The team at CharityChain decided that the world needs an antidote to the negativity that is readily available, and what's better than giving to create the type of positivity you want to see in the world.
What it does
CharityChain is a novel approach to charitable giving using e-transfer and a user-friendly platform to provide a single point of access to a wide array of charities. It turns e-transfer transactions into a means of creating a chain of generosity within a social network. After being shown a wide array of charities to donate to, users will be prompted to invite their friends to continue the gift of giving and meet others within a community of good samaritans. Users will be able to track their donation progress, earn badge and meet others based on their charitable behaviour and history.
How we built it
Our project was built using React.js and Tailwind CSS for the front end. We used firebase to store charity donation progress, badges and authentication.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into challenges implementing the Paybilt API to add eTransfer functionality.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of finding a natural solution to a general problem in the world, insensitivity. Along with that, we were able to collaborate well to meet our goals for the app while learning in the process.
What we learned
React.js, TailwindCSS, alternative JavaScript Libraries, Implementing Firebase Realtime Database with web applications.
What's next for Charity Chain
What's next for CharityChain is continuing to implement the social side of it. In the future, users should be able to connect with one another, especially those who have donated to the same causes. This would serve as a testament to the bonds that can be formed from people who hold giving near to their hearts.
