Inspiration
Many people want to volunteer, but find it difficult to connect with reputable organizations near them. Oftentimes, the organizations themselves have confusing websites that make it even harder for individuals to find a place to help their community. This website will allow potential volunteers to connect with local organizations and easily sign up to help others out right away. According to a Bureau of Labor Statistics Survey released in February 2016, 24.9% of Americans donated their time in 2015. We aim to help charitable individuals get involved with nearby organizations to improve communities worldwide.
What it does
We are a website that helps people looking to volunteer connect with organizations in their area. Our goal is to develop a community of inspiring people who want to devote their time and effort for community service by connecting them with genuine opportunities.
How we built it
We built this using HTML, CSS, and a little bit of JavaScript.
Challenges we ran into
We faced some challenges with getting the search bar to work, and after we did get that working, we also had a lot of issues with the CSS and getting everything to look nice and not overlap each other.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are really proud of the look of the website as a whole, the search bar function, and just getting everything done.
What we learned
We learned a lot about CSS and a little bit of javascript for getting a search bar to work without a prompt window.
What's next for Charis
In the future, we plan on taking Charis international. From 5 cities we plan on expanding it to 50 countries to make community service opportunities accessible to all.
