Our mission at Charis is to increase the engagement of students in community service to allow them to become active members of their community and have a lasting, positive impact on society at large

Inspiration

According to a Bureau of Labor Statistics Survey released in February 2016, only 24.9% of Americans donated their time in 2015. This was our inspiration to increase the number of charitable individuals worldwide by making community service opportunities more accessible and creating a community of happy and inspiring volunteers globally

What it does

Charis wants to develop a community of inspiring people who want to devote their time and effort for community service by connecting them with genuine opportunities.

How we built it

We decided the idea after a lot of brainstorming and we created the website using the HTML, CSS and JavaScript languages. We worked as a team and delegated responsibilities which made the task very easy.

Challenges we ran into

Fortunately we did not have any technical issues with our website but we did have some conflicting viewpoints which we resolved amongst ourselves like a team.

What we learned

Creating Charis definitely enhanced our technical skills and we learnt a lot about community service and various NGOs worldwide. We also learnt a lot about each other in the team.

What's next for Charis: By the community, For the community

Our future plans for Charis are to take it international. Currently, it only has 5 cities in its database which we plan on expanding to 500 cities over the span of 1 year.
