Inspiration
As a software engineer and AI enthusiast, I was inspired to create Characify from my experience working in the neuroinformatics team at InselGruppe Hospital. There, I delved into AI applied to images, which led me to explore fun and creative applications of AI algorithms in image generation.
What it Does
Characify transforms your photos into consistent, personalized characters that maintain visual coherence across all your image creations, making it perfect for storytellers, artists, and content creators.
How We Built It
We developed Characify using NodeJs and Python for the backend and Expo (React Native) for the frontend. Machine learning models were integrated to handle image recognition and ensure character consistency. The project involved extensive research and development to refine its features.
Challenges We Ran Into
Ensuring on the fly character consistency across different images without training a LoRa for each character was a significant challenge, requiring precise tuning of machine learning models. Designing an intuitive user interface was another hurdle, as it needed to cater to users with varying technical expertise.
Accomplishments That We're Proud Of
We're proud of creating an app that successfully addresses the needs of storytellers and artists by ensuring visual consistency in their work. The positive feedback we've received from users validates our efforts and motivates us to keep improving.
What We Learned
We learned a great deal about image processing, machine learning, and user interface design. Importantly, we discovered the value of user feedback, which has been crucial in refining Characify’s features and functionality, like the realistic model.
What's Next for Characify
Our AI models are deployed on Runpod. Currently we are not relying to any external third-party API. Our next steps involve incorporating user feedback to improve the UI/UX and introduce new features like make characters wear specific clothes uploading reference pictures.
