Pitch
Save your home - save the world! Battle Gremlin-like creatures as they unleash chaos in your ACTUAL living room!
CHAOS BEASTS is a spooky, light-hearted Mixed Reality FPS where mischievous creatures burst into your home and transform it into a chaotic, messy battleground.
Significant Update (Meta Horizon Start Competition)
We utilized the competition period to overhaul our prototype into a feature-complete MR experience. Here is what we built this month:
- Cinematic MR Intro: Our new intro literally brings the house down. Your real ceiling cracks open, a meteor egg crashes into your room, and dynamic debris explodes outward as the first Beast jumps out.
- Huge-Scale Boss: We added a giant boss that attacks from outside your room - throwing lava rocks, leaping over your actual roof, and tunneling under the ground to force physical movement of the player. This creates a dynamic and tense mixed-reality encounter.
- Smart Decal System: We optimized a new system for slime, scorch marks, and wall damage that conforms to real-world surfaces (walls vs. floors vs. furniture), turning your room into a disaster zone without dropping frames.
- Progression Loop: A complete structure revealing new weapons, beasts, and locations, plus a "Beast" Store section with enemy info to deepen the lore.
- Performance Optimization: We significantly improved stability to handle the new heavy physics and destruction. We focused on keeping the visuals crisp and responsive avoiding reliance on reprojection techniques like SpaceWarp.
Inspiration
We grew up on creature feature movies of the 80s (like Gremlins and Critters) and loved the idea of experiencing that fun monster chaos in our own homes. With Quest 3, we can finally unleash that chaos in Mixed Reality.
We are Twindigo, twin brothers who previously reached 1M+ players with Puppet War: FPS. Now, we're using the Quest 3 to turn your home into a physics-driven hilarious battleground.
What It Does
In Chaos Beasts, waves of wicked creatures rampage across your real furniture, hide behind it, knock over virtual props anchored to real surfaces, and leave puddles of slime everywhere!
- Casual & Accessible: Designed as a jump-in-and-play experience. Clear a level, earn rewards, and unlock upgrades in short, intense sessions.
- Physics-Driven Combat: Freeze a beast mid-air and shatter it against your real coffee table, or blast it with a Gravity Gun and watch it tumble through your wall.
- Progression: In Arcade Mode, unlock new beasts, arenas, weapons, and now a massive boss fight! Survival Mode is included for endless escalating chaos.
How We Built It
Built in Unity 2022.3 specifically for Meta Quest 3:
- MRUK & Smart Spawning: No floating enemies. Creatures pounce intelligently on shelves and tables.
- Room-Aware AI: Beasts use real walls, ceilings, and furniture for hiding and ambushing.
- Advanced Physics: Integrated Hurricane VR and PuppetMaster for realistic ragdoll collisions with your actual furniture.
Why It Works on Quest 3
Chaos Beasts relies on the depth sensor and high-res Passthrough to create true "Physical Comedy." Enemies don't just float in augmented space; they cling, collide, crash, and splatter across your actual room.
Challenges we ran into
- Dynamic Room Adaptation: The core challenge was making the AI work in any unknown space. We developed a navigation system that interprets unique room layouts on the fly, ensuring that enemies can navigate intelligently and hide behind real furniture in everything from tiny, cluttered bedrooms to massive living rooms.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- The "Magic" Moment: Seeing a virtual beast panic and duck behind a real-world sofa to avoid a Freeze Ray. That was when the illusion became reality.
- The "Wow": Creating the new meteor intro sequence where players instinctively look up at their own ceiling and go "WOW."
What we learned
Coming from mobile shooters, we learned that Mixed Reality forces you to treat the player's room as the actual map and that physics is the most important immersion tool.
If a creature clips through a table, the magic breaks. But if it crashes into that table, bounces off, and gets up angry, the comedy becomes unforgettable!
What's next for CHAOS BEASTS
- Local Co-op: Two players defending the same physical room together.
- Dedicated VR Mode: A full 3D virtual house with destructible spaces, designed for play beyond the limits of your physical room.
- Full Optimization & Polish: Better beast textures, refined decals, and improved environmental details.
- Content Expansion: More absurd weapons, destructible props, new enemy types, and narrative elements that reveal the secret origins of the Chaos Beasts!
🚀 Estimated Launch: Q1 2026
