Inspiration
We've all had our fair share of family troubles when it comes to planning out a vacation. They're time-consuming to plan and just a pain to come to a compromise with the rest of the family on where to go.
What it does
That's where this bot comes in, our vacation planner automatically makes your vacation plans a breeze. Simply select your location, the distance you're willing to travel and the app does the rest! Displaying popular tourist attractions in the area along with places to eat for the day.
How we built it
We used a combination of python and HTML mainly to make the entire user experience cohesive. Bootstrap and some javascript were also used along with the Yelp and OpenStreetMaps API.
Challenges we ran into
One of the major issues we found along the way had to do with the Yelp search API where we could only request one attraction at a time which made our program very slow. Our loophole around this was using parallel requests to increase the speed of the program.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our code works
What we learned
We learned a ton about how to implement multiple APIs at once.
What's next for Change Later
If we were given more time there was definitely a lot to be desired on the front end. While it does get the job done, giving it a more modern look would definitely clean up the user experience.
