Inspiration

Plastic is everywhere in our lives--from the Chobani at Technica breakfast to the keyboard we're using to code. But how do we know if it's recyclable and where should we recycle it? There are always questions about recycling, and having these answers all in one place with RecyCAN will give our users a quick solution to their recycling problems.

What it does

Have you ever wondered what the triangle with a little number within it means? Curious as to what "curbside recycling" means? We've got you. RecyCAN acts as a wiki for all of your recycling needs. Our app acts as a wiki for anyone of all ages to use. Plus, users can play a quick game to nail in the skills they've learned in our website!

How we built it

First, we created wireframes in Canva and delegated roles to each member. For the website, we used HTML, CSS, and JS. The game was coded using p5js and the p5play library.

Challenges we ran into

Throughout the duration of the Hackathon, one of our group members unexpectedly had to leave. This created an imbalance in work distribution and caused us to lag behind our schedule by a lot.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The RecyCAN team is proud of being able to create a website that mirrors our "vibe"--approachable, cozy, and sleek, but not too sleek to the point that it seems intimidating for a user to use.

What we learned

We learned how to navigate repl.it for collaborative coding, using p5js and p5play to create a game, effective scheduling and planning, and learning to navigate HTML, CSS, and JS better.

What's next for change later

In the future, we hope to create more resources for users and more interactive games to help users learn more. Also, by turning RecyCAN into a mobile app users can download onto their phones, it will allow for better access to users. For accessibility, we hope to add high contrast and other themes for better readability.
