Inspiration
The demand for personal portfolio websites are ever increasing! This intrigued me to create my own version. A one-stop destination of all your practical skills and projects need a place which is none other than a portfolio website!
But making it from scratch requires a lot of effort and time which I did in an earlier version last summer. This time, I forked one of the repos and tailored it accordingly to my needs.
What it does
The website lists all your feature projects, background info, social links, project archives and a message and communication link for potential clients/recruiters. The much essentials for every developer's portfolio website.
How I built it
This website is built using Gatsby which is fast and reliable along with React components which makes it much easier to tweak the code according to your needs.
Prior to this hackathon: Website up and running (Jobs/Description not updated)
Hack Day: Website updated with recent job updates and introduction, resume file etc. Demo video created and hosted on YouTube.
Challenges I ran into
Fixing the loader logo was indeed challenging but found a fix for that soon! It is way too customisable now as compared to the original repo from where I forked. Check out the code here
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
This project has been a part of many tech workshops as a demo and also as an example of how good a portfolio website can be made using simple technologies. The workshops were hosted by GirlScript Foundation and Girl Up-She United.
What I learned
I learnt the efficient use of Gatsby framework as well as the tweaking of codes in an aligned fashion. Also learnt the way in which GitHub Pages work!
What's next for Personal Portfolio Website
The next step is to introduce automated blogpost workflow in the website under a new section of 'Blogs'
All the setup and installation guides are present in the README.md of the repository.
