Inspiration
As a dedicated League of Legends player across all game modes, I noticed a gap in existing build resources. While there are many websites providing champion builds, most focus on a single "optimal" build without considering the diverse playstyles and situational needs that different players have. I wanted to create a comprehensive resource that respects player choice while providing data-driven insights.
What it does
ChampSight.com is a website that provides detailed build analytics for League of Legends champions across all game modes. Rather than just showing you the "best" build, we present multiple viable options with their respective win rates, pick rates, and performance metrics so you can choose what fits your playstyle and game situation. For example, Miss Fortune can be built AD, AP, or lethality with each having different strengths depending on team composition and game state. Instead of forcing one build path, we show all viable options with comprehensive statistics, letting players make informed decisions based on their preferences and match context.
How we built it
Our backend service is built with TypeScript/Express.js, continuously fetching match data from the Riot Games API across multiple regions and game modes. This data is processed and aggregated into a PostgreSQL database with optimized schemas for fast querying. The frontend is a React application that provides an intuitive interface for users to explore champion statistics, build paths, and performance metrics. We've focused on making the data easily digestible while maintaining the depth serious players need.
Challenges we ran into
Processing millions of League matches daily while maintaining real-time accuracy is no small feat! We had to develop sophisticated data aggregation algorithms that could handle the massive volume of games while keeping storage costs manageable. Balancing data freshness with performance required careful optimization of our database schemas and caching strategies.
What's next for ChampSight
We're constantly evolving based on community feedback. Upcoming features include enhanced filtering options, personalized recommendations based on your match history, and expanded analytics for team compositions and matchup data. We're also working on mobile optimization and API access for third-party developers. Note: Our codebase is proprietary but we're open to discussing technical implementation details with the community.
