Inspiration

I wanted to create a management game combined with an autobattler, where your focus is on improving your gladiators and watching them perform well. I also wanted to add a lot of flavor from Greek mythology.

What it does

You manage gladiators and train them in three stats: Attack, Defense, and Speed. You can upgrade the gym to make training more efficient and buy and upgrade equipment at the shop.

You can send your gladiators on missions to earn money and fame, as well as titles that grant unique bonuses. You can also send them to tournaments, where victories earn them unique items and additional rewards.

Your ultimate goal is to prepare your gladiators to compete in a tournament organized by the gods of Olympus themselves.

How we built it

Every line, game code, art prompts, balance harnesses, tests and the build log, was produced in Claude Code, driven by me talking with it.

It is vanilla ES modules concatenated into a single index.html. No framework, no bundler, and no runtime dependency but Three.js, which draws the arena. Every sound and all the music is synthesised at runtime as a pure function over a Float32Array, so nothing was recorded or licensed, the entry ships zero bytes of audio, and the synthesis can be unit-tested and rendered to a WAV offline. Fighters are six-piece jointed puppets, so a man's actual gear is visible on him in the bout, on the road and in the morning report.

Challenges we ran into

Several iterations, game balancing. Some useful feedback from playtesting. Biggest challenges were design based, where to place icons, tutorial design, how to balance the game. Little to no technical issues.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

The game is efficient. There are no soft locks from all the testing. The fighters and creatures use a rig system that makes them look like puppets.

What we learned

Claude code is a very efficient tools for prototyping mobile games and I learned a lot about game design.

What's next for champion manager

Eventually I would like to polish and publish this as a full game.
