Inspiration

I've enjoyed playing Chameleon with various groups of friends for a while, but thought that the current online version was slow, unorganized, and buggy, especially on phones. I decided to try and make my own.

What it does

The project will allow multiple people to connect to a room via a code and view the same game board, with a host being able to change the board and start the game.

How we built it

I used HTML and Javascript to create the frontend, and was working on implementing firebase and firestore into the backend.

Challenges we ran into

I entered this hackathon with little experience in HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Firebase. I tried learning them all and finishing the project at the same time, but unfortunately I was not fast enough and couldn't finish the project. I'm finished the HTML and Javascript sections and planned out the CSS section, but got stuck on implementing Firebase into the project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I learned a lot about how HTML, CSS, and Javascript worked together to form a cohesive front-end, and learned a decent amount about how firebase works and is implemented into a website.

What we learned

I learned that these kind of things take a lot of time. I definitely should have prepared more ahead of the competition to learn more about the tools I would be using. I had lowered my goals in anticipation of needing more time, but didn't expect this much difference in time usage. I also learned how valuable team members are; it takes a lot longer working on a project when I don't have teammates to split the work up with or bounce ideas off of.

What's next for Chameleon!

I still plan on finishing the game and using it with my friends!
