Inspiration

We were inspired by the idea of using VR to educate people around the world. We decided we could use VR to show astronauts the dangers of space travel by NASA's five hazards. It was really exciting to research about this topic, as many of us wanted to learn more about radiation. It was a fun experience getting to know what it takes to live on the moon. Also, NASA's Just in Time training videos inspired us to make this type of production.

What it does

The VR experience is a training module that is one part of a five series that NASA can make to address certain hazards in space. We chose radiation as the topic and showed examples of problems and solutions within the VR. The VR is a sit and watch type training, where more interactivity can be put in place if needed.

How we built it

We decided to build this experience within Unity, to create the VR world. We used GarageBand to make different sounds, and photoshop to design some 2D images.

Challenges we ran into

We didn't know much about the topic of radiation, so lots of research was needed to be done. We also needed to have the audio sound more robot like, which we achieved using GarageBand.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the amount of research and everything we learned in such a short amount of time. We were also exposed to Unity to some of us who never used the platform.

What we learned

We learned how to work as a team with a bunch of different skills. We all used our different skills to make on big final project

What's next for Challenge #6: Lunar Astronaut Protection Program

Next up is the polishing and making of the VR way more advanced. We would like to make the platform way more interactive and make it feel like you are on the moon and living.
