Inspiration
In many busy cities, drivers waste a lot of time searching for available parking spaces. This creates unnecessary traffic congestion, increases fuel consumption, causes air pollution, and makes urban travel stressful. We wanted to build a smart city solution that helps drivers find parking faster using AI and real-time parking intelligence.
What it does
ParkWise AI is a smart parking finder system that helps drivers identify available parking spaces in a parking area. The system displays available and occupied parking slots, recommends the nearest available parking spot, and provides parking insights for city administrators.
The platform includes a driver dashboard and an admin dashboard. Drivers can view available slots and get the best parking recommendation. Admins can monitor occupancy levels, update slot status, and view parking zone analytics.
How we built it
We built the prototype using a web dashboard connected to a backend API and a parking data system. The system uses parking slot data to classify each slot as available, occupied, or blocked. It then calculates parking availability, occupancy percentage, and nearest available slot recommendations.
We also use AI to generate smart parking summaries and recommendations, such as which zone is most crowded and where drivers should be redirected.
AI model used
The prototype uses an AI-based classification approach to identify parking slot status. Each parking slot is classified into categories such as Available, Occupied, or Blocked based on parking data.
Featherless AI can be used to generate natural-language parking insights and recommendations for drivers and city administrators. These insights help explain parking conditions in a simple and useful way.
Challenges we ran into
One challenge was designing a system that feels realistic even as a prototype. Real smart parking systems usually require cameras, IoT sensors, or live parking data. For this prototype, we used simulated parking slot data to demonstrate how the system would work in a real smart city environment.
Another challenge was making the dashboard simple enough for drivers while still giving useful information to city administrators.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud that ParkWise AI shows how AI can reduce traffic congestion and improve urban mobility. The system is practical, easy to understand, and scalable for real-world smart city parking management.
We also created a clear dashboard that shows parking availability, occupancy percentage, recommended parking slots, and AI-generated insights.
What we learned
We learned how AI can be used not only for prediction but also for decision support in smart city systems. We also learned how parking data, dashboards, and recommendation logic can work together to create a useful real-world solution.
What's next for ParkWise AI
In the future, ParkWise AI can be improved with real IoT sensors, camera-based parking detection, mobile app integration, payment support, and live navigation to parking spaces. The system can also be expanded to support multiple parking zones across an entire city.
