Inspiration
Construction projects often face delays due to poor supply chain visibility, fragmented communication, and manual tracking of materials. Project managers struggle to answer critical questions such as Where is the material? Will it arrive on time? Which vendor is reliable? We wanted to build an AI-powered platform that transforms scattered construction data into intelligent insights, enabling proactive decision-making rather than reactive problem-solving.
What it does
ChainIQ is an AI-powered construction supply chain management platform that provides real-time visibility and intelligent automation throughout the material lifecycle.
Key features include:
📄 AI-powered document intelligence to extract information from BOQs, contracts, purchase orders, and specifications. 🚚 Real-time GPS tracking through a dedicated driver mobile application. ⏳ ETA and delay prediction using traffic, weather, and historical delivery data. 📷 Vision AI for material quality inspection and construction site monitoring. 🏢 Vendor intelligence for supplier performance evaluation and quality scoring. 📈 Market intelligence to analyze material prices, availability, and cost impact. 📞 AI communication agent that automates emails, WhatsApp notifications, and voice calls. 🧠 Decision Support Agent (RAG + LLM) that provides AI-driven recommendations and answers project-related queries. 📊 Unified dashboard offering live tracking, alerts, analytics, and reports.
How we built it
ChainIQ is designed as a modular AI platform. Frontend: React.js, Tailwind CSS Driver App: Flutter Backend: FastAPI (Python) Database: PostgreSQL Vector Database: Qdrant Image Storage: AWS S3 AI components include: Document Intelligence using OCR and document parsing. Vision AI for image understanding and quality inspection. RAG-based Decision Support using LangChain and LLMs. Machine Learning models for ETA and delay prediction. Vendor and market intelligence modules for supplier evaluation and procurement optimization. External integrations include Google Maps API, OpenWeather API, WhatsApp Business API, SendGrid, and Twilio Voice for real-time tracking and automated communication.
Challenges we ran into
Understanding complex construction supply chain workflows and stakeholder interactions. Designing a system that combines multiple AI techniques into one seamless platform. Integrating document intelligence, Vision AI, predictive analytics, and communication agents into a unified architecture. Creating a scalable workflow while keeping the solution practical for real-world adoption.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Designed a comprehensive AI-powered supply chain architecture tailored for the construction industry. Integrated multiple AI capabilities—including Document Intelligence, Vision AI, predictive analytics, RAG, and AI agents—into one solution. Developed a role-based ecosystem with dedicated interfaces for project managers, suppliers, drivers, and site engineers. Created a scalable architecture that can integrate with existing ERP systems and construction workflows.
What we learned
Working on ChainIQ helped us understand the complexity of construction supply chains and the importance of integrating multiple AI technologies instead of relying on a single model. We gained practical knowledge of document intelligence, Vision-Language Models, Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG), predictive analytics, and agentic AI systems. We also learned how thoughtful system architecture and user-centric design are essential for solving real-world industry challenges.
What's next for ChainIQ
Our future roadmap includes:
Supporting RFID and IoT sensors for automated material tracking. Expanding Vision AI for automated safety compliance and equipment monitoring. Implementing blockchain-based material traceability. Introducing demand forecasting and procurement optimization. Deploying multilingual AI assistants for construction teams. Developing a fully autonomous AI agent capable of coordinating procurement, logistics, and project scheduling with minimal human intervention.
