Inspiration

Many LGBTQ individuals experience isolation due to societal stigma and lack of support. My friend, a member of the LGBTQ community, shared his struggle with feeling alone. We wanted to build a companion chatbot that acts as a friend, diary, and resource hub to uplift and support users.

What it does

chAI is an AI chatbot designed for the LGBTQ community to combat isolation. Acts as a diary and friend, offering emotional support when users feel low. Provides local community events to encourage social interaction. Recommends LGBTQ-friendly spaces like restaurants, hotels, spas, nightclubs, and beaches. Offers access to resources specific to LGBTQ individuals.

How we built it

Data Collection: Gathered LGBTQ-specific resources and community event data from the web. LLM Fine-tuning: Used PyTorch to fine-tune a large language model (LLM) on LGBTQ-related conversations. Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG): Integrated RAG to provide up-to-date information and relevant responses. Chatbot Deployment: Built an interactive chatbot that understands sentiment, context, and user needs.

Challenges we ran into

Data Collection: Finding high-quality, inclusive, and safe LGBTQ-specific data. Bias in AI Models: Ensuring the chatbot remains inclusive, respectful, and non-judgmental. Real-time Updates: Integrating live event data and LGBTQ-friendly locations dynamically.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully fine-tuned an LLM to provide personalized, empathetic conversations. Created a chatbot that uplifts users and recommends safe spaces. Overcame AI bias challenges to ensure a supportive and inclusive experience.
