CETREX – Smart Campus Emergency & Response System
Inspiration
We noticed that students often face difficulties when reporting campus emergencies and problems. In many situations, they may not know whom to contact, and important information such as the exact location or severity of the problem may be missing.
We were inspired to create CETREX, a platform that makes campus incident reporting faster, smarter, and easier.
What it does
CETREX provides a single platform for students to report campus incidents such as:
- 🚨 Security emergencies
- 🏥 Medical emergencies
- 🔥 Fire hazards
- ⚡ Electrical problems
- 🚰 Water leakage
- 🏗️ Infrastructure damage
Users can submit an incident with a description and image. CETREX can use AI to classify the incident, determine its priority, and provide location information.
Administrators can view incidents through a dashboard, track their status, assign them to the appropriate staff, and mark them as resolved.

Report → AI Classification → Location → Alert → Action → Resolution
How we built it
We built CETREX using modern web technologies:
- Frontend: React.js, HTML, CSS, JavaScript
- Backend: Node.js and Express.js
- Database: MongoDB / Firebase
- AI: AI API for incident classification and analysis
- Maps: Location and map integration
- Dashboard: Admin interface for monitoring incidents
The frontend provides an easy-to-use interface for students, while the backend manages incident data, users, notifications, and communication with the AI service.
Challenges we ran into
During development, we faced several challenges:
- Designing a simple interface that students could use quickly during an emergency.
- Connecting the frontend, backend, database, and AI services.
- Handling image uploads and incident information.
- Creating an effective incident-priority system.
- Making the system responsive for different devices.
- Managing our limited hackathon development time.
We solved these challenges by dividing the project into smaller modules and focusing first on the core reporting and response workflow.

- Develop and prioritize features under hackathon time constraints.
Most importantly, we learned that a good technology project should not only demonstrate technology but also solve a meaningful real-world problem.
What's next for CETREX
We want to expand CETREX beyond a prototype and make it a more complete campus safety platform.
