Inspiration

We wanted to create a fun, engaging Reddit game that embraces absurdity. Inspired by games like Cards Against Humanity and Two-Sentence Horror, CertifiedBadTakes challenges users to come up with the most hilariously wrong statements.

What it does

Players start with a prompt (e.g., "Explain why the sun is actually cold"), then submit their worst possible take. The most upvoted submissions rise on the leaderboard, making bad opinions a competitive sport.

How we built it

We developed CertifiedBadTakes using Devvit, Reddit’s developer framework, allowing seamless integration with posts and comments. The game is built with TypeScript, leveraging the Reddit API to automate submissions, voting, and leaderboard tracking.

Challenges we ran into

  • Optimizing post creation to prevent spam.
  • Designing a simple yet engaging UI within Reddit’s constraints.
  • Balancing automation while keeping user-generated content fresh and fun.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Creating a unique, replayable Reddit game.
  • Implementing a daily challenge system to keep users engaged.
  • Developing a live leaderboard that updates dynamically.

What we learned

  • How to efficiently use Devvit for Reddit game development.
  • Best practices for handling user-generated content.
  • The importance of UX design in Reddit-based games.

What's next for Certified Bad Takes

  • Themed challenges (Sci-Fi, History, etc.).
  • AI-generated takes for users to compete against.
  • Reward systems for top contributors.
