Inspiration

With having worked in a Veterinarian office, it is a personal issue we had at our clinic. Although medical offices might be different on how they could manage their pharmaceuticals, I know overall it tend to be an issue of losing track of inventory and not being able to find certain items as they are needed. We wanted to create something that took off some of the stress of inventory management in warehouses and clinics, and hopefully even create a system that helped connect them together.

What it does

Our project has a customizable sorting system. There will be the default that will be typically used in clinics, however if they chose to, they can customize something with our software that works best for their pre-existing system so that there is an ease of integration if they have something they found works best for them. Our default has the "bin/shelf" system. This is where each schedule class will sit (Blue bins - Schedule 5, Red bins - Schedule 4, Green bins - Schedule 3, Purple bins - Schedule 2, Yellow bins - Schedule 1) and for our shelves, we would just number them as needed. As for sorting further, it would go by alphabetical order, allowing you to be able to scan through and find what you need. As for our warehouses, we will have the same customizability however we will tend to push the sorting towards a "more commonly used" sorting system. They can use the categorized bins as needed, however we took into consideration the fact that some class 5 and some class 2 drugs will be used equally yet some drugs of the same class will rarely be used.

How we built it

In order to build the mock, we decided to go through with a powerpoint application with extra abilities, A.K.A Canva. Although the "website" is non-functional, it will give the impression of how the website will function.

Challenges we ran into

One of the first challenges we came across was the concept of our first idea. Although a good idea, there would be a very expensive cost of integration that most smaller offices wouldn't be able to implement. We then discussed a variety of other options and came up with our current solution now!

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud that we developed an idea on our own but and instead of going along with it, we discussed the idea with others that shared with us things we didn't think of before and we developed an idea around those issues. Although our final idea may not be perfect, in the short amount of time we are able to utilize, we managed to make it work!

What we learned

We learned about what can go into the logistics of sortation and that there is more to it than just A-Z!

What's next for Central Storage Management System

What we strive for next is to be able to refine our system and implement it into clinics and warehouses.
