Inspiration

The reward for learning something new marks the beginning of a new bond. This inspiration led us to contemplate the potential of a Celo-based smart contract-driven quiz app integrated with Minipay. Our aim is to increase awareness about crypto-based payments and showcase the incredible technology that can significantly reduce operating costs while ensuring top-notch blockchain security.

What it does

It's a quiz and educational app that offers incentives for learning. The content is designed to disseminate information about the Celo platform, Opera Minipay, and their benefits, as well as general crypto knowledge. Upon registering for any qualifying product, you receive a quiz link that earns you cUSD or, when available, a ZAR stable coin. Referring someone to use these products also rewards both you and your referral with quizzes, providing maximum incentives for correct answers.

How we built it

Smart contracts, authored in Solidity, are deployed to the Celo Alfajores testnet. Testing in a local environment opens the MetaMask wallet for end-to-end payment transactions, while Minipay is featured on mobile screens. Envio, a pivotal component for indexing and swift transactions, is under construction. The UI is crafted in SvelteKit, chosen for its ease of development within a TypeScript-based environment

Challenges we ran into

Grasping the stack and establishing our development environment posed initial challenges. As a team new to this technology stack, it was our first time working on it. Thanks to the invaluable assistance from the onsite hackathon team, we successfully navigated through these challenges.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully developed and deployed a smart contract on the Celo blockchain, creating a user interface for seamless interaction with the chain. Integration of a crypto wallet was implemented for secure transactions. Recognising the significance of Envio for fast transactional capabilities, we are proud to have acquired new skills as a team within a short time. Our journey in exploring this exciting tech space continues.

What we learned

We delved into the world of Celo blockchain, acquiring knowledge of Solidity as our programming technology. Our learning extended to Carbonhood, exploring trading capabilities, and Mento, understanding stable coins, including the potential impact of a ZAR-backed stable coin for South Africa—potentially a game-changer. We mastered the end-to-end integration of a crypto wallet and transactions using ethers and cUSD. Above all, we gained insights into how blockchain can securely decentralize the world.

Recognizing the paramount importance of learning in the modern world, our vision extends beyond a mere quiz app. We aim to build a comprehensive learning and reward program, fostering a network that spans universities, companies, and beyond.
