Inspiration
Growing up in a family where medicine was a constant topic, I often heard about how tedious and overwhelming medical charting could be. I was interested in finding a way to make that process easier, so that healthcare workers could spend more time actually caring for their patients.
What it does
CelestiCare is a charting tool meant to make clinical documentation less of a burden. The idea is to help healthcare providers record patient information more easily and accurately, so they can keep their attention on the people they’re helping.
How we built it
We built the project using React for the frontend and Flask for the backend. I found it interesting to see how much thoughtful design and testing went into making data entry feel natural and not overwhelming, especially with the smart detection features we added.
Challenges we ran into
I found it challenging to design an interface that actually made sense to clinicians, given how complex medical data can be. It took a lot of trial and error, and I realized how important it is to balance making things easy to use with making sure the data stays accurate and useful.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I’m especially proud of the smart detection system we developed, which can pick up on common medical abbreviations and add them to a patient’s problem list automatically. I think this could actually make documentation faster and help cut down on billing mistakes, which feels like a meaningful improvement.
What we learned
I learned a lot about how healthcare documentation actually works, from how medical notes are structured to why accuracy matters so much. Seeing how these tools fit into the daily routines of healthcare workers made me realize how much technology can help improve care if it’s designed thoughtfully.
What's next for Celesticare
Looking ahead, I want to expand the app by connecting it to a bigger medical database and making the smart detection features even better. I’m also interested in making sure it can support more users and keep patient data secure, since that’s so important in healthcare.
