Inspiration

I've always been fascinated by the idea of talking to your favorite celebrity — not a chatbot pretending to be one, but something that actually feels like them. So when Google dropped Gemma 4 in April 2026, I saw my chance. I built a web app with a chat UI where you pick a celebrity, and Gemma 4 slips into their persona and holds a full conversation with you. The results were genuinely impressive — and sometimes hilarious.

What it does

It allows you talk simulate talking to a particular celebrity, we use the Google Gemma 4 model to take on the persona of that person, and the conversations are always limited to the life, history and achievements of that particular celebrity.

How we built it

I used Nextjs, Google Gemma 4 model. It was an intense 3 day coding period in order to submit on time for the hackathon.

Challenges we ran into

I had to look for images online of those celebrities and also make sure that the AI model is able to maintain context of the conversation as it proceeds. I also had to find a way to make it a conversation and not just a request and response cycle.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I am happy that I was able to complete it within 3 days of the hackathon and also I am happy that this project helped me get over my fear of Nextjs.

What we learned

I learned and used Nextjs for the first time after so many years of avoiding it.

What's next for Celeb Chat

Trying to add more celebrities and the ability for users to even submit their own persona to the AI model.
