Inspiration

The modern internet is drowning in noise. We asked: "What if the internet had constraints that forced clarity instead of chaos?"

We remembered BBC Ceefax — the 1980s Teletext system with a strict 40×24 character grid. No images. No videos. Just pure information.

Old technology could solve modern problems.

When we discovered Kiro AI and its advanced features, we asked:

"If modern AI existed in the 1980s, how would it build the internet?"

Ceefax 2077 is our answer.

What it does

Ceefax 2077 is a noise-cancelling internet — a Teletext-style information system that compresses 2025's chaos into 1980s clarity.

9 Zones, 36 Pages

  • Zone 100 — TRUTH: Real-time news, AI bias detection, horror stories
  • Zone 200 — SYSTEM: Live crypto prices, AI threat monitoring, code analysis
  • Zone 300 — PULSE: Social toxicity analysis, digital wellbeing
  • Zone 400 — PLANET: Climate monitoring, Mars colonization data
  • Zone 500 — SHIELD: Biometric auth, phishing detection, emergency SOS
  • Zone 600 — CREATOR: GitHub trending, iTunes podcasts, live streams
  • Zone 666 — GLITCH: Horror mode with corrupted AI entity
  • Zone 700 — NOMAD: Travel destinations, AI matchmaking, NFT marketplace
  • Zone 800 — HOME: Smart home control, time machine, AI art
  • Zone 900 — THEMES: Visual themes, VHS recording, file browser

Key Features

  • 17 AI Personas — Each zone has unique voice (news anchor, crypto trader, demon)
  • 6 MCP Agents — Real-world data (IoT, Crypto, Wayback, Browser, Memory, FileSystem)
  • 10 Agent Hooks — Automated workflows (auto-healer, biometric lock, crisis mode)
  • 9 Real APIs — HackerNews, CoinGecko, Wayback, GitHub, iTunes, OpenSea
  • Authentic Teletext — Strict 40×24 grid, VT323 font, CRT effects

How we built it

Kiro AI Workflow

Built entirely through vibe coding with Kiro AI.

1. Spec-Driven (13 YAML files)

apis:
  hackernews: "https://hacker-news.firebaseio.com/v0"
  coingecko: "https://api.coingecko.com/api/v3"

2. Steering Documents (17 AI Personas)

You are a corrupted AI entity in Zone 666.
Speak in glitchy, threatening fragments.

3. Agent Hooks (10 Workflows)

{
  "trigger": "network_failure",
  "action": "retry_with_fallback"
}

4. MCP Agents (6 Integrations)

  • IoTAgent, CryptoAgent, WaybackAgent, BrowserAgent, MemoryAgent, FileSystemAgent

5. Tech Stack

  • React 18 + TypeScript
  • Vite 7 (2.28s builds)
  • Tailwind CSS
  • 9 Real APIs
  • Bundle: 460KB (135KB gzipped)

Challenges we ran into

1. The 40×24 Grid Constraint

Problem: Teletext has strict character limits — no scrolling.
Solution: Custom TeletextPage component with overflow: hidden and CSS Grid.

2. CORS Blocking APIs

Problem: Wayback Machine blocked by CORS.
Solution: CORS proxy fallback using api.allorigins.win.

3. Infinite React Loops

Problem: Pages crashed from infinite re-renders.
Solution: Audited useEffect hooks, removed bad dependencies, used useCallback.

4. Authentic Teletext Aesthetics

Problem: Modern CSS wants smooth animations.
Solution: Forced transition: none, image-rendering: pixelated, double-height text with transform: scaleY(2).

5. 17 AI Personas

Problem: Each zone needed distinct voice.
Solution: Kiro's Steering Documents — markdown files that transform text by context.

6. Zone 666 Horror

Problem: Creating digital horror without jump scares.
Solution: Psychological horror — corrupted text, glitches, 10-second trap timer.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

1. 36 Pages, 100% Functional

Complete application with real APIs and real data.

2. Every Kiro Feature

  • ✅ Vibe Coding
  • ✅ Spec-Driven (13 YAML)
  • ✅ Steering Docs (17 personas)
  • ✅ MCP Agents (6)
  • ✅ Agent Hooks (10)
  • ✅ Multi-Agent Workflows

3. Pixel-Perfect Teletext

Exact 40×24 grid, 100% saturated colors, double-height text, CRT effects, 4:3 ratio.

4. 9 Real APIs

HackerNews, CoinGecko, Wayback, GitHub, iTunes, OpenSea, CORS proxy.

5. Horror That Works

Zone 666 genuinely unsettles through digital dread, not gore.

6. Philosophy Meets Code

Not just an app — a manifesto that constraints breed clarity.

What we learned

1. Constraints Are Features

The 40×24 grid forced clarity. Every character mattered.

2. AI Can Have Personality

Steering Documents proved AI doesn't need to be generic. Context-aware AI is the future.

3. Automation Should Be Invisible

Best automation is unnoticed — network failures heal themselves, security gates activate automatically.

4. Old Tech Solves New Problems

Teletext from 1970s is the perfect antidote to 2025's information overload.

5. Vibe Coding Works

Built 36 pages through conversation with Kiro AI. No traditional workflow.

6. Horror Is Implication

Zone 666 taught us digital horror works through what you don't show.

  • Automation is invisible, not intrusive
  • Constraints breed clarity, not limitation

We're not building a product.
We're building a philosophy.

Welcome to 2077.
Welcome to the noise-cancelling internet.
