Inspiration
I've always wanted to participate in a hackathon, but haven't really had the technical skills to do it until now. Although my only real data science experience is stor 120 and this project doesn't do much in terms of the statistics side, I am still happy that I was finally able to participate and make a piece of code that using what I learned in stor 120. We all have to start somewhere :)
What it does
It takes two finance data sets, finds common companies between them from a certain category, and then compares various values found in the datasets.
How we built it
It was written in python in Anaconda Studio (specifically JupyterLab)
Challenges we ran into
Figuring out how to convert the raw txt files into csv files that JupyterLab liked took a decent chunk of time. As far as the coding itself went though, there isn't too much to mention here.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Submitting a project to a hackathon for the first time. Using knowledge from courses taught at UNC-CH to actually do something outside of class.
What we learned
How to turn a txt file into a csv file. How to use much larger datasets in python than I have before.
What's next for CDC 2021 Brennan Robbins
Attending workshops and the closing ceremony.
