The CatTracks website is somewhat hard to navigate. Finding which bus line you should take to get somewhere and when the bus will arrive is a lengthy process. This inspired us to make a more concise, simplified way to plan trips with CatTracks.

What it does

This website takes information about your trip and spits back all the possible buslines you could take.

How we built it

Our first step was to take the data about the bus schedules for CatTracks and put them into a readable format. We then made an HTML page to take user input and send output. A Javascript file handled the sorting of the data and any HTML events.

Using MLH's promo code for, we obtained a free domain and hosted a static website through Google Cloud's Storage and Network APIs.

Challenges we ran into

Neither of us are particularly knowledgeable of Javascript, so a lot of googling was done. Neither of us have used Google Cloud to host a website before either.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We have made a tool that UC Merced students can use and will benefit from. Being able to host a website for free was pretty cool as well.

What we learned

A lot of Javascript and basic networking protocols/information.

What's next for CatTracks

In the future, CatTracks would ideally determine the fastest bus route out of the buslines you could take. Displaying travel time and implementing a map/other graphical feature would be nice as well.
