CatSynth

🎨 Inspiration

I wanted to create something joyful, weird, and instantly fun — a musical app that didn’t take itself too seriously. Then I thought: what if a piano meowed? That’s how CatSynth was born — to blend music, humor, and cats into one meowgical experience.

🎹 What it does

CatSynth is a playful web instrument where each virtual piano key plays a different cat meow sound. You can tap to play live meow melodies, switch between sound styles like “Classic Meow” and “Jazz Meow,” and even record and replay your mini masterpieces.

🛠️ How we built it

Using Bolt.new, I created the entire app in one prompt. It generates a 12-key virtual keyboard, loads cat meow audio samples, and handles playback, recording, and replay. The UI is responsive and cat-themed, making it a lightweight but complete musical toy.

🚧 Challenges we ran into

Timing audio playback to feel smooth and responsive was tricky. Also, handling multiple overlapping meows without making it sound chaotic required tuning the audio behavior and adjusting volume layers.

🏆 Accomplishments that we're proud of

I’m proud that CatSynth brings a smile within seconds — no learning curve, no setup, just pure meowgic. And the fact that it was built from a single Bolt.new prompt proves how far a silly idea can go with the right tools.

📚 What we learned

Humor and creativity can go hand in hand with code. Even small, playful apps have the power to delight users. I also learned how important audio responsiveness and UI feedback are in creating satisfying musical interactions.

🚀 What’s next for CatSynth

• Add more sound packs (e.g. “Robot Meow,” “Opera Cat”)
• Let users share their meow songs
• Introduce multiplayer “duet” mode
• Add visual meow animations
• Mobile app version for cat concerts on the go
