Inspiration

My partner and I kept brainstorming all different kinds of ideas for our project. We had no knowledge of how to code, therefore it was difficult to create something that was complicated and out of our skill set. We realized that we wanted to have an impact on the funny side of the categories, which is least practical. We thought that ChatGPT has been the greatest tool made, it would be amusing to have a chatbox the opposite of being helpful. We created CatGPT, a website that conversates using only cat images.

What it does

CatGPT is an AI chat tool wherein instead of giving long and practical answers, it answers the user with cat images no matter what the question is. It is a lighthearted website that is built for quick entertainment to brighten your day.

How we built it

We built this project through the help of Gemini AI. We asked questions about how to create our code and requested elaboration for steps we were confused about. While we made adjustments to our project and errors appeared, we searched for help about our mistake and how to fix it.

Challenges we ran into

Since we are both freshmen and this is our first time participating in a Hackathon, a big challenge was starting our project and how to code it. We didn’t know where to begin, for example, what language to use or how to export our project.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of participating in our first Hackathon because we see this as an opportunity to grow and set us up for success in the future. Even though we didn’t know what we were doing in the beginning, we asked experts questions we felt were “dumb” and persevered to develop our project.

What we learned

During this Hackathon, we learned about the appliance of Gemini AI and how it is useful in creating code. Through Gemini, we taught ourselves what some lines of code meant and how to change the appearance of our project.

What's next for CatGPT

For an upgraded version of CatGPT, we could make this project more complex. For example, when the user asks a question, the AI will respond with an answer (instead of a photo) and include a cat pun. This could be the future of CatGPT.
