Inspiration

Our team was inspired by the pervasiveness of AI in society and social interaction. Catfishing serves to educate youth to differentiate AI and human speech, while also making it aesthetically appealing and enjoyable. It is also to create an alternative to most dating apps, for a more friendly, educational, and nonpressured environment, as online dating has significantly went up in the last few years. Additionally, we also want to teach against catfishing (as a real thing) and encouraging deeper connections after commission.

What it does

Catfishing allows the user to match themselves with a person, then the user will get a minute to get to know the person. Once the timer ends, they will decide whether the person is AI or human. If they are AI, then they have gotten catfished! If human, they can choose to continue talking to them and get to know them.

How we built it

We designed our framework and used VSC's built in GitHub Copilot to generate most of the code. We used Flutter and its Dart programming language.

Challenges we ran into

trying to recreate our vision of the app with AI, every run through we had there was some problem that needed to be adapted, some animation or visual that was warped or didn't meet our idealisms. We also spent time communicating with each other and collaborating.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We would go on to take a simple concept and transform it into a fully functional app, incorporating everyone's ideas, meeting new people (first hackathon!!).

What we learned

This was our first hackathon all individually so this was a incredible learning experience. It was very helpful all working together for such a long period of time and really bonding with each other, we witnessed each others strengths, weaknesses and much more. We also were able to learn a lot more about AI and its place in society, especially generative.

What's next for Catfishing

Adding more options within profiles, creating a web server for actual users, a username + password system, and better ui and ux.
