Inspiration
cateRRRpillar was inspired by college students' desire to be able to take control of their mental health be being able to conveniently rant when there may be no time or money for a therapeutical support system.
What it does
cateRRRpillar is a journaling app that allows users to write about positive memories in their life or negative experiences they want to get off their chests. However, what's unique about this journaling app is that the negative entries (also called rants on the app) have an option to be burned which permanently deletes them from the app, allowing the user to let go of whatever they ranted about. If the user does not feel ready to fully let go, the rants can also be saved to the app in a safe which encourages users to not got go back and reflect on their bad times unless they choose to burn them later. In addition, positive memories are saved in chronological order on the app, allowing the user to go back and look at their positive memories in a function called reminisce in the app.
How we built it
Using figma, our group of four created different pages the phone app would display and connected these pages through buttons and the connection feature on the website.
Challenges we ran into
Our group consisted of four computer science majors with experience in only backend development. We had to learn how to use figma and frontend development during the Design-a-thon which made the task of app creation focused on design more challenging for us to jump into with no previous knowledge on the subject.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Our team is proud of our ability to learn a completely foreign skillset, along with the fact we were able to complete a functioning prototype in a day's work.
What we learned
Our team learned about figma and how frontend development works. We were able to witness professional portfolios and learn what a job in UI design would entail along with what it would take to get there.
What's next for cateRRRpillar
We plan to add the backend component of this design to get the writing and saving features fully functional and hopefully someday bring the app to the app store.
